Sonny Corinthos, Mobster, Father & Lover

Michael Sonny Corinthos, Jr., is head of the mob
in Port Charles on the ABC soap opera, General Hospital.

Sonny Corinthos, a man who is complex, confident,
street wise, hard nosed, always right, maintains
an outward appearance of being calm and in control
at all times, yet on the inside he's a complex mix
of emotions.




The Early Life of Sonny Corinthos

On General Hospital, Sonny's father & mother were
Mike Corbin & Adela Corinthos. Mike left his mother
and Sonny when he was at an early age, in
moved stepfather, Timothy "Deke" Deacon Woods.

Deke a cop, was never too fond of Sonny and used
to beat him continually. Many of Sonny's mental
problems now stem from those early childhood years.
When Adela died, Sonny moved out.

Sonny later learned that his father, Mike had a daughter,
Courtney Matthews, with an ex-girlfriend Janine. His mother,
Adela, had a second son, Ric Lansing, with fiancé Trevor
Lansing but chose to leave Ric to be raised by his father.
Trevor blamed Sonny for Adela's fall down the stairs while
she was pregnant with Ric and refused to have Sonny in
his household

Sonny owned a sleazy club called the Paradise Lounge,
where Sonny met his first female pursuit on General Hospital,
Karen Wexler. She met Sonny while winning an amateur strip
contest at his club.


While in those early days on General Hospital, Sonny
befriended and lived with Stone Cates. Stone and
Robin Scorpio were lovers until Stone contracted AIDS
and passed away, leaving Robin infected in the process.
Robin later went on to have an affair with Jason Morgan,
who was Sonny's henchman, then left to study medicine
in France. Robin only recently re-appeared on General
Hospital in the spring of 2006, where she became a
doctor at General Hospital.

Stone influenced Sonny's life so much he named his second
son Morgan Stone after him and Jason Morgan.


The Women of Sonny Corinthos

The love of his life became Brenda Barrett, but because
of his lifestyle it didn't last. Sonny stood Brenda
up at the altar hoping she would hate him in order for
him to protect her from the violence and constant
uncertainty of his lifestyle.

Sonny was then forced to marry Lily Rivera instead of
Brenda, because of Lily's mob boss father. A pregnant
Lily was later blown up by a car bomb meant for Sonny.
Lily's father arranged for the car bomb because he thought
Sonny meant to go back to Brenda. Sonny inherited Rivera's
territory after he too died, making him the kingpin
of the mob in Port Charles.

Sonny donated the $30 million that he inherited from Lily
to build a Stone Cates Memorial Wing for AIDS patients
at General Hospital.

The most significant of Sonny's female encounters has
been with Carly Corinthos, who came to town as Caroline
"Carly" Benson. He has married and divorced Carly several times.

Sonny has two living children with Carly. Sonny adopted Carly's
son, Michael, after forcing (by hanging him on a meat hook
until he agreed) the boy's biological father A.J.
Quartermaine to sign away his rights. AJ was not
aware that Michael was his child as Carly had told
him Jason Morgan was, until Robin Scorpio blew the
whistle, which also led to her and Jason breaking
apart.

Originally, he was able to remove Carly and Michael from
the Quartermaine home by blackmailing AJ with evidence he
had that AJ caused a fire at the warehouse. Faced with
going to jail, AJ signed divorce papers. Later, AJ married
Courtney Matthews, Sonny's half sister and and started
demanding his parental rights.

AJ later tried and succeeded in kidnapping Michael
with the help of crazy woman Faith Roscoe. The kidnapping
made for an interesting story with AJ being shot
in the end after a fight with Jason at the Quartermaine's
mansion.

During this time Sonny became involved with Reese Marshall,
an FBI agent dispatched to help find Sonny's children.
While she was certainly one of the best fitted
counterparts to Sonny in terms of her ability to
stand up to Sonny, she found herself falling in love
with him and protected his secret mobster files from the FBI
and the Port Charles police. Unfortunately Reese
became pregnant in her off screen life which resulted
in termination from the show.

Carly Corinthos later gave birth to his son, Morgan Stone
Corinthos. Sonny accidentally shot Carly in the head while
she was giving birth to Morgan.

Sonny also has a daughter, Kristina, with his former attorney,
Alexis Davis. Alexis kept the paternity of her daughter secret
for years to protect her from Sonny. She was forced to tell
Sonny the truth when Kristina developed aplastic anemia
and needed a bone marrow transplant.

Sonny also had an unnamed stillborn daughter with Samantha,
Sam McCall. Sam later turned out to be the daughter Alexis
gave up for adoption as a teenager.

One of Sonny's short lived affairs was with Emily Bowen-Quartermaine,
the adoptive sister of, Jason Morgan. Emily persuaded him
to get treatment for his bipolar disorder. Sonny recently
ended the relationship out of fear that his lifestyle
would hurt Emily.

Other women who have had small parts in Sonny's life
are Cindy Woods, Hannah Scott, and Angel Ellis.

When Lorenzo Alcazar realized it was time to finally
put Sonny away, he went to Sonny's office at the coffee
shop and just as he was about to shoot Sonny, Carly
came in, giving enough of a distraction to allow Sonny
to shoot Alcazar in the head.

Carly opened her big mouth to Ric Lansing the acting D.A.
and got Sonny in a lot of trouble. The only way Sonny
could get away without having a murder charge against him
was to get Carly to marry him again.

Carly was madly in love with Jasper Jacks but when she
realized this was the only way to keep Sonny out of jail,
she gave in. Sonny lied to her and really wanted their
marriage to work this time, also because he was jealous of
Carly's love for Jacks.

When Carly realized Sonny had lied she tried to get out of
the marriage but Sonny wouldn't give in. Finally Jason and
Carly made Sonny realize if he really loved her, then he would
let her go, and so Sonny divorced Carly letting her free to
marry Jaxs.

On the night of Carly and Jax's wedding, Sonny made love
with a newcomer to town, Amelia Joffe who was producer
of Everyday Heroes with one of Sonny's former lover's as
host, Sam McCall.

Coming to Port Charles in a thunderstorm, Kate Howard
tried to use Sonny's office phone because her cell had been
knocked out. Sonny recognized something familiar about
Kate and soon discovered she was really Connie Falconeri,
the girl Sonny had planned on running away with back in
Bensonhurst New York when they were young adults.

Kate bought a house next door to Sonny and have had
several encounters, none of which have led to making love yet,
but Sonny might have met his match with Kate which will
only make him try harder to get Kate into his bed.
