Night Shift Episode Four: Keep the Change

Spinelli reports to Toussaint for janitorial duty, since Jason is
unable to show up. Spinelli also wants to use the chance to have
time with Jolene. She however seems to be looking for Jason.
Later Jolene reveals it is the anniversary of her father’s death
and she never said goodbye to him. Spinelli is a shoulder for her
to cry on.

As word of Mrs. Storch’s death circulates it becomes clear it was
not due to natural causes. When the police are brought in Regina
begins to watch Leyla. Finally Leyla confronts her asking what
the problem is. Regina reveals she watched Leyla enter Mrs.
Storch’s room right before she died. Meanwhile files continue to
get mixed up. Jolene delivers the wrong meal to a patient and he
became ill, while Leo notices another mix up in the files.

Leo wonders if an evil spirit isn’t loose in the hospital.

Lainey has Patrick consult on her father’s condition. Mr. Winters
has suffered a stroke and needs surgery. Dr. Ford and Ms. Sneed
inform Lainey that the insurance company will not pay for the
surgery. Lainey offers to pay out of pocket for the surgery and
Patrick offers his services for free. Dr. Ford feels it is a
waste of time. Lainey is heartbroken. As Lainey tries to get her
father ready to leave he is unresponsive at times and angry at
others. Cody arrives, and shocks Lainey when he is able to help
her father. Lainey coldly accuses him of only doing it to score
drugs from her. Cody can’t believe how callous she is.

A patient comes into the ER with signs of pneumonia. The woman is
sent away because she has no insurance. Patrick is distressed to
see her being sent off and apologizes to the woman as she passes
him. Outside the hospital Stan has a strike in full swing. Much
to the surprise of Robin, Patrick is carrying a picket sign. Dr.
Ford and Epiphany come out to view the strike. Dr. Ford threatens
anyone who is striking with suspension. The strikers continue to
chant and march. Unseen, Stacy is approaching the hospital and
collapses in the bushes.

Patrick notices Stacy and rushes her in. Robin wants Patrick to
consult on the case which baffles him. He is not an OBGYN or an
AIDS specialist. Robin points out Stacy is having headaches.
Patrick accuses Robin of using this patient to push her own
desire to have a baby on him.

Patrick finally discovers the mystery singer is Toussaint.
Toussaint reveals he was part of the singing group The Saints.
When Patrick shares this information with Epiphany she is
flabbergasted. She finds herself unable to talk and clumsy the
next time she runs in to a bewildered Toussaint.

Kelly ignores Andy who is confused by her attitude after their
recent night together. However, Kelly is all over Pablo and they
end up hooking up in the locker room shower.

Stacy is diagnosed with Pre-eclampsia. Robin and Kelly differ on
what is the best route for Stacy to take, as Patrick watches.
Robin notices a condom wrapper stuck to Kelly’s shoe. Later when
she confronts Kelly she denies it is hers. Stacy decides to wait
on having the baby and follow Kelly’s advice instead of Robin’s.

Epiphany comes outside demanding help in the hospital for the patients from those striking. Stan is disappointed. Epiphany confronts Stan
telling him she is ashamed of him. Stan says he too is ashamed,
and shows her the sick patient they turned away.
